《けんじゅつ、おおしえ いたします》
- WE TEACH SWORDSMANSHIP -
と、かいた かんばん を かけてある、いえ が ありました。
says the sign
placed in front of a house.
さっきから、かんばん を じっと みていた わかいおとこ が、つかつか と なか に はいっていって、
A young man had been
staring at the sign for a while and went straight in.
「どんな りゅうぎ の けんじゅつ でも けっこう ですから、わたくし に、けんじゅつ を おしえて ください」
“Please teach me swordsmanship. I don’t mind which
style you teach,”
と、でしいり を もうしでました。
the young man
asked.
なか から でてきた、いえ の しゅじん が、
Then a master of the house
came out.
「さて は、おまえさま は、そと の かんばん を、ごらん に なられましたな？」
“You saw the sign outside, I suppose,”
と、きく ので、
said the
master.
「いかにも、さようで ございます」
“Yes, you are right, ” answered the young man.
と、こたえる と、いえ の しゅじん は、あたま を かきかき、
Then the master said,
scratching his head,
「これ は、ないしょ だがな、あの かんばん は、じつ は、どろぼう よけ の かんばん じゃ。
“Between you
and me, the sign is only meant to keep burglars away.
ああしておけば どろぼう が こわがって、こない だろ」
The sigh would scare
burglars away, you know.”
